The President is pushing back against criticism of his firing of former FBI director James Comey, saying he was acting within the law and the bureau was investigating potential ties between Russia and his campaign.
The President has already called Comey “a leaker” who was “trying to influence the election” during his dismissal.
In a Tuesday interview with Fox News, Trump said he has confidence in Comey, and that he was fired based on the FBI’s recommendation.
“I was acting on the recommendation of the Attorney General, and he’s very tough on leakers,” Trump said.
“He’s very, very tough.”
Trump also dismissed the notion that he had anything to do with Comey’s firing.
“There was no collusion.
There was no obstruction of justice.
There’s no collusion,” he said.
